    Number every paragraph in the margin.

  2. Summarise each one

    30 minutes

    Write each paragraph's main point in under ten words in a list.

  3. Label the jobs

    10 minutes

    Tag each line: claim, evidence, example, transition or aside.

  4. Spot the problems

    • Two paragraphs doing the same job
    • A paragraph with no clear point
    • Claims with no evidence
    • Points in the wrong order
