    • A red pen
    • Somewhere you won't feel self-conscious reading aloud

  2. Read slowly aloud

    25 minutes

    Mark every stumble, every breathless sentence and every word you repeat.

  3. Fix the marks

    20 minutes

    Rewrite each marked line until it reads smoothly out loud.

  4. Rhythm

    10 minutes

    Vary sentence lengths. Follow a long sentence with a short one.

  5. Final read

    10 minutes
