  1. Prepare

    • Back up the raw files
    • Open your flub timestamps from the recording

  2. Rough cut

    30 minutes

    Cut false starts, repeated takes and tangents that go nowhere.

  3. Break

    5 minutes

  4. Clean up

    20 minutes

    Remove distracting ums, long pauses, loud breaths and mouth clicks. Don't over-cut, or it sounds robotic.

  5. Levels and loudness

    10 minutes

    Even out levels, then aim for about -16 LUFS integrated with a -1 dB true peak.

  6. Listen through

    Listen to the whole episode at 1.25× speed and fix anything that jumps out.

  7. Export

    • Export the MP3
    • Write show notes and chapter markers
    • Schedule the episode
