by WaffleKnight Creative Production › Deep Drafting

85 minutes 7 Steps

  1. Premise

    • A character who wants something
    • What stands in their way
    • Where it might end (it's allowed to change)
  2. Freewrite the character

    10 minutes

Write about them in any form: what they fear, what's in their pockets, what they'd never say out loud.

  3. Sketch five beats

    10 minutes

Opening image, inciting moment, complication, crisis and closing image. One line each.

  4. Draft the first half

    30 minutes

    Through to the complication.

  5. Break

    5 minutes
  6. Draft the second half

    30 minutes

Through the crisis to the closing image.

  7. Finish

    • Give it a working title
    • Note the one thing you'll fix first in revision
    • Save and back it up
